The right to be left alone
Justice Louis Brandeis described the most basic right as “the right to be left alone.” This wisdom seems lost to an age where government is accustomed to graft, waste, corruption, meddling, harrassment and intervention in seemingly every facet of life. With a government employee around every corner, it's bound to happen. A wise law professor of mine and former administrative judge once said, the federal government isn't efficient at much of anything except destroying people's lives. It's a shame the wisdom of the founding fathers of our country has been lost in our time.
May the Republic renew its commitment to the Constitution, limited government, the rule of law, and respecting the right of every American to pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. As Walter Williams says, if liberty dies in the United States, then it is doomed to die everywhere.
