A Modest Proposal for Virginians: Forget Secession, how about Cession?

Okay, so in the wake of the 2006 election, Democrats have taken over my native Virginia following the November elections, and the Democrats picked up Virginia's U.S. Senate seat. Well, who is to blame? Its largely because the populace of the northern Virginia suburbs of the District of Corruption are full of Yankee expatriates and Big Government liberals. They are the thorn in our flesh. Of course, federal employees are always going to vote to increase the size and scope of the federal government. So with our last gasp, let us save the Commonwealth of Virginia from liberalism on behalf of real Virginians! Anyway, us real Virginians should contact our legislators in the Virginia House of Delegates and Senate, and offer that liberal enclave of northern Virginia back to D.C.

Originally, the commonwealth of Virginia and the State of Maryland ceded territory for the federal city in Washington. However, in 1847, it was decided that the southern portion below the Potomac was unneccessary, and the area south of the Potomac River (39 square miles or about 100 km²) was returned, or "retroceded", to Virginia and now is incorporated into Arlington County and the City of Alexandria. Well, that was before Lincoln, FDR and Big Government. Today, the corpulent federal government has grown beyond the bounds of the so called federal city. So, we might as well give D.C. back its room to accomodate its droves of federal employees, lobbyists, contractors, and assorted bureaucrats. Lets start a campaign to retrocede the earlier 1847 retrocession of what is now Arlington County and the City of Alexandria back to D.C.

This is obviously tongue-in-cheek. I know it won't hold water. It's the thought that counts.

All great things must start in the mind of someone. Keep up the great work.

Sounds good to me.
