Romans 13 - Let us be subject for conscious' sake
Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.
—Romans 13:1
We should live peaceably among men, heed the laws of the civil authorities insofar as they don't conflict with God's holy standards. Let us pray for the magistrates and those in authority, and pray that God would lift up just and righteous leaders and give us wise and prudent government.
My hope is that the Lord would lift up good and honorable Christians in government who would interpose against oppression committed against the people by others as well as those within the gov't who abuse their power. Abusum non tollit usum (The potential for abuse does not preclude proper use.)

If our world were not under judgment, which I think it is in a here a little, there a little way, our governing authorities would be godly and therefore just. I fully agree we are to submit to godly authority, and even crummy authority as long as it is not overtly hostile to God's law and Person. I think I honestly question whether Christians would want to be governing authorities in our day. It's a sad quandary. I think if you asked my husband to run for judge, he would wonder why you dislilked him. No, he'd love to be a judge and he'd be a wonderful judge, but he probably wouldn't be elected because he's Christian and conservative, but not a "christian conservative," if you get my increasingly drifty drift.

It was my realization of this aforesaid statement, which compelled to write this book review of Constitutional Chaos.
The Lord holds unjust magistrates accountable before the judgment seat, and their works and imprudent administration of justice will be brought to account. The abusers of authority can scoff at notions that the Lord even has an immutable standard by which to judge them now.
